Variables
Automatically personalize signatures with variables pulled from the profile.
Variables make a single template work for everyone: on send, each variable is
replaced with the user's real information. You write {{user.firstName}} once in
the template, and everyone sees their own first name.
How it works
- In the editor, place your cursor where the information should appear.
- Insert a variable from the dedicated panel (or type it manually).
- On send, ECARD replaces the variable with the value from the user's profile.
The exact list of available variables is offered in the editor at insertion time. A screenshot of the variables panel helps you find your way around.
Common examples
User-related variables:
-
{{user.firstName}}— first name -
{{user.lastName}}— last name -
{{user.email}}— email -
{{user.jobTitle}}— job title -
{{user.phone_mobile}}/{{user.phone_office}}— mobile / office phone -
{{user.company}}— company
Variables related to the user's group (agency, department, HQ…):
{{user.groupauto.name}}— name of their group{{user.groupauto.address}}— address of their group
Group variables come in three flavors (each user's group, a specific level of the org chart, a fixed group): see Group variables to pick the right one.
Rendering example
For a template containing:
{{user.firstName}} {{user.lastName}} — {{user.jobTitle}}
{{user.company}}Marie Dupont, Sales Director at ECARD, will see:
Marie Dupont — Sales Director
ECARDBest practices
- Complete profiles (job title, phone numbers, company) before deploying.
- Make sure no variable appears "in plain text" in the preview: that means the matching information is empty in the profile.
- Always prefer a variable over a hard-coded value, to avoid stale information.
- To hide a separator or a label when a piece of information is missing, use
conditional display
(
[if …]…[/if]).
Troubleshooting
{{user.jobTitle}}shows as-is in the signature → the job title is empty in that person's profile. Fill in the field, then reinstall the signature. See Signature troubleshooting.- The signature is out of date → it captures the profile at install time. After a change, reinstall it (or let the Outlook add-in do it automatically).
